Entrepreneur Visa

What is the purpose of the Tier 1 Entrepreneur Visa?

This visa allows you to set up a business in the UK.

This visa allows you to start your own business, join an existing business or take over an established enterprise in the UK.

You may enter the UK as Prospective Entrepreneurs. This is a new form of Special Visitor visa, which enables you to apply for leave to remain as a Tier 1 (Entrepreneur) during the currency of the leave to enter as a Prospective Entrepreneur.

What is the requirement of the Tier 1 Entrepreneur Visa?

The following is the main requirement for this visa:

You will need to prove you have sufficient English language skills in one of the following ways:

·         You are from a country where English is the main language

·         You have successfully completed a Master degree course which was taught in English

·         Or you have passed an English language test that is equal to level C1 of the council of Europe Common European Framework for Language learning

In addition to the above, you are also required to meet the requirement for Maintenance under Appendices C. 


By the time their leave expires, you have to show that your business activities have resulted in creating 2 new full time jobs in the UK.  

You will need to gain 75 points to get  Tier 1 Entrepreneur Visa with the following breakdown: 

·         Access to £200,000 = 25 points

·         The sum is held in a regulated bank account = 25 points

·         The funds are disposable in the UK = 25 points

Duration of Visa:

It is normally granted for 2 years after which you may apply for further 3 years after that time you are eligible to apply for Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) or permanent residence. 

Rights in the UK:

You are not able to to undertake any form of employment within the UK outside the business or businesses they have set up, taken over or joined and are not allowed to claim public funds.
